One summer day on a lake
Our Family
My very first golden retriever was named Lightning. Her nickname was
Critter. I named the business after her. She was my husband's hunting
girl and a special part of our family. When she passed away, we started
looking for one of her littermates who was going to be bred. We found
her brother and waited a year until we could adopt Lightning's nieces,
Critter and Blondie. Critter looks more like her aunt everyday, and
these days, both she and Blondie are our hunting girls.
Over the years, we have welcomed more than 40 dogs into our home, most
for just a few weeks and some for a while longer.
All of this was done through Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin.
April, at 6 months of age, had come into GRRoW (Golden Retriever Rescue
of Wisconsin) because the family did not want her anymore. She had a
broken front leg, and then needed surgery on her other front leg as
well.
Rugar had been chained to a pole for 9 months and only ate whenever
some one thought to throw some food out by him. He came into GRRoW with
his brother; both were dirty, thin, and full of ticks and intestinal
worms. In just 5 short months, we watched him become a completely
different dog and come around to so many new things.
Penny came into GRRoW from an abusive situation. We guessed her age to
be 6, and she's a wonderful petite girl who loves to cuddle. Indoors,
she loves to relax, but once outside she is full of energy for a 6 year
old.
These are just a few of the goldens who came into the rescue in my 3
years with GRRoW as a foster mom.
Now with Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever (WAAGR) we undertook the most precious gift of all. We were able to help with the birth and raise 8 puppies and mommy. Mommy came to us 2 weeks before she gave birth. She was no longer wanted where she was at. A very submissive little golden who didn't know what a house was about. Here she is with all of her pups at 7 weeks old.
