Pets Care About Vet Care If your dog or cat could talk, what do you think they would ask you for? Some dogs would ask for treats, treats, and more treats. A lot of cats would want more neck rubs. But beyond these superficial demands, your pets would probably also ask for good vet care. After all, a veterinarian will ensure their healthcare needs are met so they can go on living their best, most enjoyable life. This is a blog about vet care — the good vet care your pet wants! As a pet owner, we think you will enjoy learning more about what a vet can do for your furry companion.

Do Your Part: 4 Reasons You Need To Have Your Cat Spayed

If you have a cat, you might think it's safe to forego the spaying process. But, that's not necessarily true. Having your cat spayed is one of the best things you can do for them. In fact, spaying your cat can actually protect it from certain health issues, such as reproductive cancers. There are other reasons beyond that to have your cat spayed. Here are four reasons why you should have your cat spayed as soon as possible.

You've Adopted Another Cat

If you've recently adopted another cat, especially one of the opposite sex, it's time to schedule reproductive surgery. If you've always had one cat in your home, it might have been safe to avoid spaying. But, now that you have two cats, the risk of unwanted pregnancies is increased. To make sure that your cats don't mate, take the time to have them spayed and neutered.

Your Cat has had Multiple Litters

If your cat has already given birth to multiple litters, it's time to have it spayed. You might not realize this, but female cats can give birth to up to five litters of kittens every year. That's because feline pregnancies only last for about two months. Most feline pregnancies produce about four kittens. If your cat has had five pregnancies in one year, that's at least twenty kittens that you've had to find homes for. The best way to end the cycle is to have your female cat spayed before they can get pregnant again.

You've Moved to a City That Requires It

If you've recently moved to a new city, it's time to check on current animal regulations. Some cities in the United States require that all pets be spayed or neutered, including indoor pets. In California, Los Angeles County requires that all cats and dogs be spayed or neutered. While there are some exceptions to the law, most cats and dogs fall into the mandatory category. If the city or county you reside in has mandatory spay and neutering laws, you need to take care of the procedure immediately.

Your Cat Likes to Roam the Neighborhood

If your cat has developed a need to roam the neighborhood, it's time to have them spayed. Each time your cat ventures out of the house, it's at risk for an unwanted pregnancy. Not only that, but spaying your cat may reduce its need to roam. Many cats roam when they're in heat. It's their way of finding a potential mate. Having your cat spayed will prevent unwanted pregnancies, and reduce their need to roam.
